The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Sr. Application Architect - Radiology & Cardiology. The Sr. Application Architect - Radiology & Cardiology is responsible for leading the strategic design, innovation and enterprise-level implementation of radiology and cardiology systems across 26+ acute care hospitals. This role defines long term architecture, standards, and technology roadmap to ensure the seamless integration scalability, and sustainability of imaging systems within the organization. It also includes addressing maintenance issues, enhancement requests, modifying applications, providing technical support, and coordinating tasks to meet deadlines. The incumbent will provide guidance for emerging technologies, enterprise imaging strategies, interoperability and data management in alignment with clinical and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Eight or more years of experience in a clinical/healthcare setting supporting Cardiology & Radiology Information Systems.
  • Direct experience in implementing and supporting a PACS/Enterprise Imaging system preferred.
  • Cerner RadNet experience is also preferred.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Radiology / Cardiology and related information systems such as, PACS, ECG Management Systems, Stress Management Systems, Dictation systems, Cardio PACS, Post-processing systems, Contrast Dose Management System, Radiation Dose management Systems, AI algorithm applications and systems in a centralized environment.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflows from a technologist, radiologist, or resident perspective.
  • Knowledge of medical and imaging industry standards such as HL7 and DICOM standards.
  • Knowledge and Experience with Storage Management (short-term and long-term archiving).
  • Experience with HIPAA and other relevant data privacy regulations.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for medical imaging systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems analysis and programming techniques and procedures, including consulting with PACS Admins and local IS to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications; design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, debugging, or modification of applications or programs based on and related to design specifications.
  • Functional knowledge of Information Systems standards and Imaging quality methods and metrics as indicated by the American College of Radiology accreditation standards.
  • Experience in generating reports on system performance, usage, and other key metrics.
  • Experience with enterprise-level incident management processes.
  • Functional knowledge of project management methods.
  • Comprehensive understanding of user business practices, concepts, and terminology sufficient to support the applications.
  • Functional Knowledge with regulatory requirements that impact Radiology & Cardiology systems such as, TJC, FDA, MQSA, ACR and various state regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certification in any of the following areas: Certified Imaging & Informatics Professional (CIIP), Certified PACS System Analyst (CPSA), Certified PACS Associate (CPAS), Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA), Registered Diagnostic Imaging Technologist R.T. (R)(ARRT).

Responsibilities

  • Develop architectural frameworks, evaluate and select technology solutions, establish governance for imaging applications, and drive innovation to optimize workflows, enhance data accessibility, and support advanced analytics.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, IS, clinical operations, facility resources, and vendors to ensure alignment with enterprise strategy and to deliver imaging solutions that improve quality, efficiency, and patient care outcomes.
  • Mentor technical teams, establish best practices, and lead strategic initiatives that shape the future of imaging systems.
  • Regularly meet with users, vendors, stakeholders, consultant and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
  • Design solutions for applications and prepare the appropriate documentation.
  • Supervise development of test data, system testing and documentation for all phases of the application development life cycle.
  • Work closely with IS Security to implement appropriate cybersecurity safeguards and measures.
  • Perform Q/A on application functionality.
  • Research and resolve implementation-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
  • Adhere to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
  • Oversee the training of users in operating procedures for application.
  • Provide regular updates to project management regarding Radiology/Cardiology System conversions and implementations ensuring all tasks, milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Recommend and implement controls and procedures to protect UHS assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.
  • Lead integration with all Radiology/Cardiology third party systems.
  • Research and resolve Customer Support Center Tickets including major application upgrades.
  • Work closely with operations IS managers to ensure complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.
  • Manage ongoing vendor relationships for relevant systems.
  • Adhere to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
  • Provide on-call support as scheduled.
  • Maintain vendor technical and end user support documentation.
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with user community.
  • Perform routine system maintenance including but not limited to Security, Printers and Print routing, Profile settings and Nurse Stations.
  • Effectively train Analysts in the performance of their duties as required.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as required.
  • Maintain Service Excellence principles.
  • Prepare and promptly submit all routine and special reports.
  • Interview applicants for vacant positions as needed using appropriate interview techniques.
  • Contribute to performance evaluation of junior staff members as needed.
  • Keep management well informed of activities, needs, and problems through regular status updates and trip reports.
  • Keep up to date on relevant Radiology / Cardiology System Version Changes, Bug-Fixes, and release notes.
  • Keep abreast on relevant Regulatory Requirements that impact the Radiology Information Systems such as -TJC, FDA, MQSA, ACR and various State Regulations.
  • Actively participate in increasing education of the Radiology Information Systems functionality through Webinars, User Group meetings, Vendor Classes, etc.
