About The Position

Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We focus on cellular reprogramming and autophagy to rejuvenate cell and tissue function with the ultimate aim of adding 10 years to healthy human lifespan. We are hiring a new member of our Vivarium team who will help maintain our animal colony. You will provide care to our animals and keep the facilities well-maintained, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. You will report to the Vivarium team lead. About you: You are well-organized with excellent attention-to-detail. You are a true team player who regularly finds ways to step up and support the group’s work, jumping in with an “I can help with that” attitude. You care about a job well done and are eager to learn new techniques and skills and contribute to extending healthy human lifespan!

Requirements

  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have worked with rodents (specifically mice and rats) in research or laboratory settings for at least 2 years.
  • Have experience in animal breeding and colony management.
  • Have experience using colony management software, such as Mosaic, SoftMouse, or StudyLog.
  • Experience performing genotyping and documenting in Transnetyx.
  • Can work a flexible schedule – weekends and holiday work are required but only occasionally, since shared across the team.
  • Are detail-oriented and have experience with accurate record keeping.
  • Are familiar with GSuite: Google Sheets and Google Docs.

Nice To Haves

  • Have an ALAT or LAT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and biosecurity.
  • Maintain our animal colony by performing routine husbandry; cage changing, feeding and watering, providing environmental enrichment.
  • Conduct animal health observations and basic health treatments.
  • Receive, inspect and put away incoming animals.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, such as daily animal health check logs, room temperature/humidity readings, etc.
  • Contribute to facility upkeep; performing cleaning and decontamination of animal holding and procedure rooms with excellent quality and rigor.
  • Perform vivarium-based initiatives independently and provide guidance to other team members as needed.
  • Provide assistance with in vivo experiments by performing basic biomethodology (handling, restraint, body weight collection, behavioral assays, weaning, genotyping) to contribute to ongoing scientific research.
  • Follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.
