About The Position

AirGarage is on a mission to bring real estate online, starting with parking. We replace broken parking machines, fragmented software, and manual, labor-intensive operations with a unified, data-rich operating system for parking real estate. We handle everything it takes to run and optimize a parking asset: payments, dynamic pricing, enforcement, license plate recognition, analytics, and more. By building all of our technology in-house, we are able to deliver a magical experience for drivers while providing real-time visibility and revenue increases of 20-50% or more for real estate owners. That’s why national real‑estate leaders like Hines and Greystar, as well as technology companies like Meta, partner with AirGarage to optimize their parking facilities. AirGarage uses datapoints like real-time occupancy, local events, weather, driver behavior, competitor pricing, and more to bring true intelligence to real estate owners’ assets for the first time. We’re investing aggressively to make the physical world legible to a digital system: cameras, sensors, and software that generate a firehose of real-time data about the world around us. That data fuels models and algorithms that allow us to optimize performance at each property while giving owners the clarity and control they’ve never had before. Before you can optimize an asset, you need to observe it. Before you can observe it, you need to bring it online. We are starting with the $131 billion US parking real estate market because it is one of the most offline and mismanaged commercial real estate asset types. 26% of the land area in the median American urban core is dedicated to parking. We are backed by top tier investors including Headline Growth, Andreessen Horowitz, Floodgate, Founders Fund, Abstract Ventures, and angel investors who have founded or worked at companies like Uber, Opendoor, Flexport, and more. The Role Data is a competitive advantage for AirGarage. As such, the Data team at AirGarage is not merely a service function for internal stakeholders, we are a value-driving function for the business at large. Our systems generate a large amount of raw data, which alone isn’t useful to humans or machines. A core responsibility of this role is making our data legible to AI. As our 2nd Analytics Engineer, you’ll build and own the semantic layer that turns tables, columns, and events into clearly defined business concepts. This means adding context, consistency, and meaning so that analytics tools, internal applications, and AI systems can reliably understand and reason about what’s happening in our parking lots and garages. As an early member of this currently lean Data team of 4, you will play a critical role in ensuring that the company’s data is maximized. To do so, you will be helping build and maintain the world’s best parking database. This role requires you to be an exceptional steward of data: obsessing over data quality and curating raw data into clean and reliable models ripe for insight generation. We’re not looking for someone to spend all their time optimizing code, we also need you to stay close to business users and be intimately familiar with their data needs - your talents in analytics engineering should help us foster a data-driven culture and empower every team in the company to use data more effectively.

Requirements

  • Passion for data. You're excited by the opportunity to clean up messy datasets and obsess over how to bring data to the table for decision-making.
  • A degree in engineering, science, math, or a related analytical field.
  • Experience with the modern data stack (Snowflake / dbt / Polytomic / Hex or equivalents).
  • Advanced fluency in SQL and Python (bonus for Snowpark) - knowing how to write intricate queries and build automated pipelines.
  • Prior experience with data modeling and writing performant queries in a data warehouse setting on large datasets.
  • Extreme attention to detail and nuance. This is a critical quality when the stakes are high and trust is everything to our partners.
  • Innate curiosity. Proactively asking questions and independently chasing down the answers to those questions.
  • Systems-thinker. You understand all the inter-connected parts of a process and know how a change in one part of a system will affect other parts of the system.
  • A growth mindset. You should be a lifelong learner, hungry to challenge yourself and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with our founding team and company leadership to build out a best-in-class analytics system to give our partners insight into their parking lot and garage performance and super charge our internal organization.
  • Work with our engineering, data, sales, marketing, and product teams to understand the data needs of the business and produce pipelines, data marts and other data solutions that enable better decision-making.
  • Develop scalable code that transforms raw data in an automated and efficient manner to ensure curated and ready-to-analyze data is always available.
  • Identify new data sources we can leverage to improve the company’s performance in core business activities; this can take the form of collaborating with our engineering team to improve data logging, scraping data from the web, or using third-party datasets.
  • Troubleshoot and communicate data issues to internal stakeholders, including by building code tests to alert us when there is a problem in our data before it affects end users.
  • Play a critical role in helping define data team best practices, workflows, and documentation to ensure we are building a sustainable and scalable data function.
