Senior Analytics Engineer at SpotHero: As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you are responsible for bridging the gap between Data Engineering and Data Analysts. At SpotHero, this role will focus on modeling complex data sets with an eye towards data quality, timeliness, and re-use. Day-to-day tasks include but are not limited to writing performant SQL queries and always seeking to improve high-use queries, building up reusable pipelines, identifying useful and less than useful data-sets within the existing data warehouses, and building relationships between Data Engineering and its stakeholders and being an advocate for them.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 2 years and a Master’s degree.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with Dbt cloud (or Dbt core).
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills. Bonus: Strong Python experience.
  • Knowledgeable of object-oriented and/or functional programming patterns and paradigms.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple data platforms and tools (eg, S3, Redshift, Airflow, Spark, Presto, Hive).
  • Demonstrated experience with small teams that move fast - all members are expected to be able to achieve maximum results with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated experience measuring the impact of technical products across multiple domains through experimentation and statistical analysis.
  • Strong ability to communicate on both business and technical subjects.

Responsibilities

  • Data Modeling/Architecting:
  • You understand and account for the data lineage/dependencies between other data pipelines.
  • You define/enforce service level agreements between you and the stakeholder with the appropriate level of monitoring and alerting around the ETL.
  • You are able to give and receive feedback from code reviews and architecture meetings in a blameless, constructive manor"
  • Pipelining:
  • You are able to maintain existing ETLs and develop simple ETL processes from scratch. You are able to meet the requirements laid out for you.
  • You understand and account for the data lineage/dependencies between other data pipelines.

  • You are able to give and receive feedback from code reviews and architecture meetings in a blameless, constructive manner.
  • Ability to provide support and observability for pieces of the codebase owned, and also understand the codebase with normal direction from peers and Data Engineers.
  • Ensure timeliness, availability, and quality of our highest value data-sets that meet established SLOs.
  • Deriving Business Insights:
  • You have a strong understanding of the 'So What' with regard to analysis. You understand the impacts of the insight and are able to propose basic next steps.
  • You're able to parse out required analysis based on high-level stakeholder requests, helping them understand what it is they need based on their business requirements.
  • You now have expert domain knowledge for the given stakeholder group you support, understanding their day-to-day operations and being able to anticipate their needs."
  • Stakeholder Enablement:
  • You actively work with Senior Engineers to develop features and/or products that solves for problems expressed by stakeholders with the intent of not creating bespoke solutions but instead generalized ones that can be used and reused by multiple groups of stakeholders.
  • You are actively listening to the bottlenecks encountered by stakeholders and advocating for platform improvements that can make them more efficient.
  • You actively work with Product Managers to breakdown stakeholder focused projects into individual milestones, including estimates, with the intent of facilitating gradual feature rollouts and easier iteration.
  • Collaborate with analysts to wade through the structured and unstructured data lake to identify valuable data sets and provide guidance on proper data hygiene and industry best practices.
