About The Position

The Core Polymer Science (CPS) group at Bridgestone Americas is actively seeking an Analytical Scientist to join an interdisciplinary team working to solve problems at the leading edge of tire technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of a spectroscopy laboratory focused on new method development and advanced instrumental analysis and should have experience in Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and/or Gas chromatography (GC) and other related tools and techniques.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare polymer and tire samples for analysis, operate a variety of cutting-edge analytical laboratory equipment, optimize conditions, and develop new methods based on business need.
  • As part of a team, support a wide array of business units through efficient problem solving and technical knowledge.
  • Validate new materials and tire concepts through advanced analytical experimentation.
  • Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and/or Gas chromatography (GC)
  • Assist other scientists and engineers by troubleshooting operational issues utilizing analytical expertise.
  • Lead business critical spectroscopy-related projects and collaborate with members within and outside of the team.
  • Support continuous improvement/automation activities.
  • May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications.
  • Supports relationships through strong communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in organization and upkeep of laboratory supplies, workspace, and equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure safe laboratory environment and work practices.
  • Train and mentor co-op students, as needed.
