About The Position

As a primary responsibility, carry out sample preparation and sample extraction tasks such as weighing, preparing extraction solutions, filtering, digesting, shaking, and dissolving samples in preparation for Liquid Chromatography (LC), Ion Chromatography (IC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and/or Metals Analysis. Carry out other duties as assigned, to include but not limited to: basic laboratory tests such as pH, water activity, weight, moisture, and physicals-testing methods. Carry out sample preparation by operating a cigarette smoking and/or aerosolization machine; collect particulate matter on pads or impingers, and process samples for downstream chemical analysis. Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, recognize errors, identify root causes, and maintain excellent working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation. Abide by strict operational scheduling by working closely with sample receiving, smoke, and aerosol groups upstream; and analytical instrumentation groups downstream from the extractions process. Achieve productivity metrics such as work-to-capacity, turnaround times, lates. Achieve quality metrics such as no deviations from procedures, non-conformances, and support quality investigations. Review data, data notebooks, logbooks, and reports to ensure highest quality. Perform general housekeeping of work area in alignment with 5S standards, and performing other duties as assigned. Apply the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibility; maintain ISO 17025 quality standards and accreditation for the laboratory. Learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and follow WIs and SOPs as written. Demonstrate strong client service skills. Proactively plan and maximize productivity. Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration. Implement operational improvements. Support and promote company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience using balances, shakers, centrifuges, pipettes, volumetric glassware, and basic analytical laboratory instrumentation.
  • Degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline preferred but not required.
  • Experience working within an established quality system (ISO 17025 preferred).
  • Understanding of production laboratory operations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with others.
  • Strong computer, client service, scientific, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn new techniques and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
