About The Position

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for moderately complex accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliation, and reporting in accordance with GAAP. The Senior Analyst will conduct in-depth data analysis, generating insights, and providing strategic recommendations to support evidence-based decision making. The Senior Analyst position will play a critical role in analyzing financial data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 1 to 3 years
  • Proven experience in accounting, finance, or a related role, preferably in an education or school district setting.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as Excel,
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: • Collect, organize, and analyze data related to key performance indicators. • Develop and maintain data dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings to department leadership and stakeholders. • Identify trends, patterns, and insights from data analysis and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial records. • Prepares, posts, and verifies the accuracy of journal entries. Analyzes general ledger accounts and financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) • Prepares and files reports in compliance with tax, regulatory, grant, and audit requirements
  • Strategic Planning and Policy Development: • Collaborate with department leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and policies based on data-driven insights. • Assist in the development of performance metrics and targets to track progress towards district goals. • Monitor and evaluate the impact of strategic initiatives and policy changes.
  • Provide training and support to district staff and colleagues on accounting related processes. • Ensure adherence to District policies and procedures including the HISD Financial Procedures Manual and HISD Finance Process Guide.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: • Collaborate with district departments, schools, and external partners to gather data, share insights, and align efforts to ensure financial records are correct and complete • Communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner. • Participate in professional networks, conferences, and workshops to stay informed about the latest trends and practices in school finance.
