About The Position

We are looking for a highly analytical Fundamental Materials (primarily Metals and Mining) analyst to be the Senior Analyst on our Materials team. This is a unique opportunity to work in close partnership with a Fundamental Materials Portfolio Manager in a high alpha concentrated portfolio and with the trading team to translate research insights into actionable positions. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamental research capabilities, and the ability to independently generate and defend investment ideas. This role is high-impact and combines deep-dive company analysis, investment thesis development, and close collaboration with trading and portfolio decision-makers. The expectation is for this person to bring original insights, evaluate market/macro drivers/regulatory shifts/jurisdictional dynamics and proactively pitch ideas backed by rigorous analysis.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of total experience, including:
  • 2+ years of experience in equity research (buy side or sell side).
  • Broader background in investment banking, equity research, or strategy roles related to financial services.
  • Experience with pitching investment cases, preferably in a sell side or buy side setting.
  • Demonstrated capability to independently originate and structure investment theses.
  • Proficient in analyzing financial institutions, capital adequacy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong technical modeling, research, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and get up to speed quickly on new sectors, companies, and provide an actionable investment thesis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent, in-depth fundamental research on companies in a wide variety of sub-sectors within Materials including steel, copper, aluminum, iron ore, coal, uranium, lithium, etc, in addition to tangential sectors: chemicals, industrials, etc.
  • Originate investment ideas with differentiated micro perspectives.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, with analytical rigor and minimal oversight.
  • Synthesize insights from conferences, regulatory filings, field research, and industry data.
  • Develop and maintain an actionable coverage list and track key sector dynamics.
  • Present stock pitches with clear valuation frameworks, catalysts, and risk/reward views.
  • Collaborate closely with a the portfolio manager to refine trade execution, timing, and sizing.
  • Help bridge idea generation and execution, accelerating the firm’s investment process.
  • Participate in management meetings, conferences, and ongoing diligence.
  • Support a proactive, high-conviction investment culture.
