About The Position

The Senior Ammonia Service Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and service of the facility’s ammonia refrigeration system. This role requires proficiency in ammonia systems and the ability to perform duties in accordance with regulatory agencies (OSHA/EPA), IIAR, and Tyson standards. Effective communication with management, engineering, operations/production, and contractors is essential. Key attributes for success include mechanical troubleshooting skills, ammonia refrigeration service experience, the ability to multi-task, and self-motivation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years industrial ammonia refrigeration experience
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft based software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret schematics and blueprints during troubleshooting
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently
  • Comfortable operating at high elevations
  • Ability to lift or move 75 pounds
  • Ability to withstand changing environments
  • Ability to operate an aerial lift and sit-down forklift
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to pass a physical and fit testing requirements for full face respirator use

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or equivalent certifications in Refrigeration/Mechanical field
  • IIAR Ammonia Refrigeration training
  • RETA/CIRO/CARO – Operators License
  • EPA TYPE Universal License
  • Boiler Operator License
  • Experience with SAP systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform and complete operations, preventative maintenance, and repairs of plant ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Involvement with Ammonia related Projects
  • Perform Ammonia evacuations/pump outs
  • Prepare and execute job specific pump out procedures
  • Involve with PSM and documentation
  • Perform Equipment Commissioning
  • Conduct Compressor Maintenance, including shaft seal replacements, motor alignments, and rebuilds
  • Perform Level 1 and IIAR Inspections
  • Conduct Transducer Calibrations
  • Perform Slide Valve Calibrations
  • Manage RMAU’s
  • Understand Functionality and controls
  • Perform Valve train and control valve troubleshooting
  • Manage Gas burner operations and safety circuits
  • Service Ammonia Liquid Pumps, including shaft seal replacements, oiler and bearing housing rebuild, and servicing Cornell CB and HT style pumps
  • Perform Purger rebuilds and troubleshooting
  • Receive Ammonia Deliveries
  • Perform Oil Removal
  • Execute Safety Relief Valve Change outs
  • Rebuild Parker RS and Danfoss Ammonia Valve stations
  • Conduct Electrical and Controls Troubleshooting
  • Train and assist general Utility Technicians
  • Read and understand equipment P&ID’s and applicable blueprints
  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA – IIAR regulations
  • Timely repair of plant ammonia equipment/systems with precision maintenance techniques as necessary to meet production rates and maintenance downtime goals
  • Perform daily data entry into current CMMS system including preventative maintenance records, inspections, and stock replacement parts used
  • Maintain a safe work environment, including all safety protocols and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision
