About The Position

We are currently seeking a Senior Amazon Web Services (AWS) Architect to join our team in Austin, Texas (US-TX), United States (US). We are seeking a strategic, highly experienced Senior AWS Architect to lead the design, governance, and optimization of enterprise-scale AWS environments for Texas public sector customers under the PCM program. This senior role emphasizes the creation of secure, scalable, cost-effective, and fully compliant architectures—particularly for regulated workloads that may involve or access Criminal Justice Information (CJI)—while aligning with PCM service requirements, controls, CJIS Security Policy, NIST standards, and state data protection mandates. Position supports strategic cloud architecture and managed public cloud services under a contract, delivering secure, compliant, and innovative Google Cloud solutions to state agencies, higher education institutions, local governments, and other eligible public entities. The successful candidate must successfully complete and maintain an FBI CJIS background check (fingerprint-based national criminal history check) upon hire and renewed every 12 months.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in cloud architecture and engineering, with at least 5+ years focused on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in large-scale enterprise or production environments.
  • Demonstrated success designing secure, compliant AWS architectures for regulated sectors (government, public safety, criminal justice, healthcare, finance) subject to CJIS, FedRAMP or equivalent standards.
  • Expert-level knowledge across AWS Well-Architected Framework pillars: Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with core AWS services: Compute (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda), Networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect), Storage & Databases (S3, EBS, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB), Security & Identity (IAM, Organizations, KMS, Secrets Manager), Management & Governance (Control Tower, Config, CloudTrail), and Observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenSearch).
  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred; AWS CloudFormation/CDK a plus) and CI/CD automation patterns.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (mandatory)
  • Must be a US citizen or Green card holder to proceed with applying.
  • Commitment to complete CJIS security awareness training, adhere to personnel screening protocols, and follow strict access controls for systems potentially involving Criminal Justice Information (CJI).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances, attestations, or role-based access privileges under the DIR PCM contract and CJIS Security Policy.
  • No disqualifying criminal history as defined by FBI CJIS standards (final determination by authorized agency).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting AWS GovCloud (US) environments or AWS for Government/regulated workloads.
  • Familiarity with Texas DIR contracts, TxRAMP authorization processes, or multi-cloud governance in public sector contexts.
  • Prior support of Texas state agencies, criminal justice information systems, or public safety cloud programs.
  • Knowledge of advanced AWS capabilities: AWS Outposts, AWS Local Zones/Wavelength, AWS Nitro Enclaves, AWS Clean Rooms, or AWS HealthLake.
  • Experience presenting to C-level stakeholders, leading architecture governance boards, or contributing to procurement/RFP responses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • AWS Certified Security – Specialty
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cloud engineers and administrators.
  • Allocate resources, manage schedules, and ensure adherence to SLAs and KPIs.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and training sessions.
  • Provide oversight for the daily operations, incident management, change management, and problem resolution across customer cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).
  • Supervise deployment, maintenance, and optimization of cloud infrastructure following best practices and security standards.
  • Ensure monitoring, backup, patching, and disaster recovery configurations are properly implemented.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for critical incidents and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Act as escalation point for customers during incidents or critical issues.
  • Participate in client meetings, provide technical guidance, and support cloud solution discussions.
  • Prepare and present operational reports, incident summaries, and optimization recommendations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of automation tools/scripts for provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Identify areas for operational improvement and cost optimization.
  • Advocate and implement DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) philosophies.
  • Ensure all managed environments are operated according to organizational policies, compliance frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with security teams for vulnerability management, cloud security compliance, and incident investigation.
