About The Position

The Sr. Aircraft Systems Engineer is responsible for the engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that economically ensures the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air aircraft within the following ATA chapter subjects: 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, 36, 38, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, and 57. In addition, coordinates engineering activities for a variety of Regulatory/Non-regulatory projects while meeting established corporate goals, objectives and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in an Engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of formal education, on-the-job training, and/or work experience.
  • Minimum of 9 years in Aircraft Systems Engineering with Management of workforce experience.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of Aircraft Systems and components design.
  • Ability to interface with manufacturers and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in an airline environment.
  • Proven experience building, managing and developing effective and innovative technical teams.
  • Ability and passion to bring vision and innovation to the engineering function.
  • Effective collaboration skills and strategy development with peers and senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with leadership (minimum - up to 2 levels up).
  • Strict adherence to meeting scheduling deadlines and holding individuals accountable to meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize Systems Engineering actions for Aircraft Systems Engineers.
  • Guide and mentor the activities of the Aircraft Systems Engineers in the Department to provide technical support for 747/767/737/777 Fleets.
  • Guide and mentor the Liaison Engineering Support Team to supplement existing Systems Engineering AOG/24/7 technical support team.
  • Provide budgetary data on projects and issues as directed.
  • Effectively manage all Heavy Maintenance & Conversion MROs - Major/Minor Repair Documentation.
  • Issue instructions and documents to economically support operations and return aircraft to service in a safe, airworthy, and timely manner.
  • Participate in the Project Systems Team.
  • Participate in the FAR/AD/NPRM compliance of the existing 747/767/737/777 Fleets.
  • Manage the Aircraft Systems Engineers in the review, analysis and responses of Fleet team Idea Exchange (FIX) for existing 747/767/737/777 Fleets.
  • Participate in Working Groups.
  • Develop and/or obtain approved data, acceptable data, and Alternate Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) for repairs, alterations, and modifications.
  • Update technical source documents as applicable to ensure accuracy.
  • Support integration of new and previously operated aircraft.
  • Analyze and determine Major Repairs, AD's, STC's and the follow on actions prior to Aircraft induction to the fleet.
  • Liaise with manufacturers; maintenance representatives, repair & overhaul (MRO) facilities; outside engineering departments; regulatory personnel; and other outside agencies.
  • Participate in industry working groups, industry steering committees, industry meetings, and conferences.
  • Review work of consultant, contract, and MRO Systems Engineers.
  • Evaluate Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Letters (SLs), and other notifications of in-service issues.
  • Develop product improvement modifications as dictated by Reliability indicators.
  • Establish component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability in accordance with budgetary and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform thorough analysis of various fleet technical issues as requested by internal customers and upper management.
  • Perform analysis on emerging fleet technical issues / in-service reliability impact events as related to Engineering Orders and Maintenance Programs Tasks.
  • Submit recommendations for continuous improvement with a focus on safety, reliability and cost control.
  • Develop and refine standard analysis methods and processes that allow consistent outcomes and responsible recommendations to support company goals with regards to dispatch reliability and on time performance.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory guidance in regards to effective reliability programs and proactively propose and implement adjustments.
  • Organize, develop and provide all necessary Systems Engineering documentation required to complete aircraft System modifications and repairs within the allocated time schedule and budget allowance.
  • Provide technical support to Technical Operations, Ground Operations, Flight Operations, and other Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings personnel.
  • Review maintenance programs, and initiate maintenance programs changes and changes to maintenance documents.
  • Report on the status of projects and issues as directed.
