Senior Aircraft Systems Engineer, E-6B

About The Position

The Senior Aircraft Systems Engineer will support the operations, sustainment, and advancement of aircraft systems for the E-6B platform, including air vehicle structures, auxiliary systems, maintenance activities, and associated hardware/software. In this role, you will provide technical expertise to NAVAIR’s Airborne Strategic Command, Control and Communications Program Office (PMA-271), helping shape aircraft systems strategies, objectives, and execution plans. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate plans, participate in operational activities, and identify deficiencies, risks, issues, and improvement opportunities to support E-6B readiness and airworthiness. Recommend corrective actions and assess new capabilities to improve the E-6B’s flight performance, mission effectiveness, safety, and overall combat readiness. Serve as a technical representative for PMA-271/E-6B in interactions with external flight certification authorities. Support resolution of obsolescence/DMSMS challenges by developing and assessing plans that reduce risk, improve performance, and ensure flight deck systems and hardware/software meet mission requirements. Draft, review, and revise Statements of Work (SOW) and Performance Work Statements (PWS) related to E-6B systems and component updates. Assist the IPT Lead with schedule development, management of contracted activities, and technology insertion at depot or flightline sites. Act as a technical reviewer and approver for Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) submissions in coordination with the IPT Lead. Contribute to defining, analyzing, and planning future updates for E-6B subsystems and components. Participate in SETR events, technical interchange meetings, conferences, and teleconferences to discuss objectives, risks, issues, opportunities, and contract matters related to the E-6B Air Vehicle. Collaborate in both in-person and virtual team environments to ensure aircraft systems products and services are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in full alignment with fleet requirements. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience with NAVAIR/NAWCAD acquisition processes, including systems engineering, requirements definition, testing, and certification of avionics and software.
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently.
  • Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NAVAIR Airworthiness processes, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general air vehicle structures and major aircraft systems such as APU, hydraulics, environmental control systems, and fire protection systems, preferred.
