About The Position

Cogent People is seeking a Senior AI Engineer (AI/ML, AWS, Healthcare) to design and implement advanced artificial intelligence solutions in support of a large-scale federal healthcare modernization initiative. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that apply AI technologies to drive meaningful improvements across the healthcare ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer with experience building enterprise-scale, cloud-based solutions using Python, Java, and modern AI frameworks. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• 2+ years of hands-on AI solution development, including:
• Implementation of AI capabilities such as RAG, MCP, and Agentic AI
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts, techniques, and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
• Experience using data libraries such as NumPy and Pandas, and building AI/ML data pipelines
• Experience designing and implementing batch and streaming data pipelines feeding AI/ML systems
• Proven experience developing large-scale applications using Java (Spring Boot, Spring Batch) and Python (Flask)
• 3+ years of experience with AWS services, including Lambda and Bedrock
• Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases and understanding of data warehousing concepts
• Strong knowledge of Linux systems and shell scripting
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated professional with strong initiative and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms
• Experience working within agile development environments
• AWS certification
• Experience supporting regulated industries, such as federal government or healthcare

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI-powered analytics and automation solutions supporting large-scale healthcare initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative approaches to enhance system functionality and performance.
• Collaborate closely with senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions.
• Debug, optimize, and test applications to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Contribute to DevSecOps practices, leveraging best-in-class AWS tools and services.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and actively participate in code reviews to uphold engineering standards.
• Present AI solutions and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay current with advancements in AI, cloud technologies, and modern software engineering practices.
