Senior AI & Data Platform Engineer
About The Position
As a Senior AI & Data Platform Engineer , you’ll play a critical role in designing and building Quizlet’s next-generation analytical data and machine learning infrastructure. You’ll partner with teams across Data Science, ML Engineering, and Product to deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient systems that enable the development and deployment of AI-powered features. You’ll measure success through platform reliability, developer experience, and adoption across teams. This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the foundation that powers Quizlet’s AI roadmap. We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require employees to be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale data or ML platforms in production environments
- Strong experience with distributed systems, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure (e.g., Airflow, dbt, GCP, Kubernetes, feature stores)
- Experience contributing to best practices for reliability and efficiency in data workflows
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills
Nice To Haves
- Experience with cross-cloud data infrastructure or hybrid orchestration
- Contributions to open-source data/ML tooling or frameworks
- Demonstrated impact improving developer experience or data reliability
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain ML and data infrastructure to support large-scale model training, deployment, and monitoring
- Collaborate with Product Management, Analytics, and Engineering teams to design data systems that meet diverse needs
- Develop and optimize tools that improve developer efficiency and data platform usability
- Implement scalable and resilient data ingestion and processing systems (real-time and batch)
- Contribute to platform reliability, observability, and automation improvements
- Participate in design and code reviews, sharing best practices and mentoring peers

- Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a starting base salary of $170,880 - $231,600, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options
