This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Aerospace Manufacturing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of aerospace manufacturing, including machining, welding, metal forming, assembly, and quality control. This role requires a deep understanding of aerospace standards and regulations, manufacturing and assembly operations, and interpretation of engineering product definition. This role is critical in driving down costs while emphasizing DFx.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in the aerospace manufacturing and assembly field, with time spent across machining, welding, fabrication, inspection and assembly
  • Familiarity with common Non-Destructive Test, including visual, dye penetrant, ultrasound, x-ray, CT scan, Eddy Current.
  • Project management skills and strong coordination to track, manage, and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Experience with manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, work order creation/management, BOM structures, and quality control.
  • Working knowledge of common aerospace and/or military standards
  • Experienced interpreting 3D CAD models and 2D/3D engineering drawings.
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Strong written, personal, and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

  • 20+ years of engineering experience with metallic, composite, various additive materials, welded joints, bolted joints, machined parts
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma processes and implementation.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Working knowledge of welding standards (AWS D17.1)
  • Working knowledge of Rigging Hardware (ASME 30.26)

Responsibilities

  • Provide design for manufacturability review and make recommendations to improve quality while simplifying operations and reducing cost and lead time.
  • Support supplier sourcing, supplier capability assessments and cost analysis activities
  • Lead DFMA, PFMEA and Non-Conformance analysis at part, assembly, and system level to improve build sequence, manufacturing processes and layout development
  • Support Make/Buy/Where/Win and Vertical Integration analysis
  • Develop and provide DFM and similar types of training
