About The Position

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Community Safety is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Senior Advisor to provide strategic advice and oversee the City’s work supporting community safety. The role requires a strategic thinker with subject matter knowledge and exceptional management, communication, and organizational skills. The Senior Advisor will report to the Deputy Mayor for Community Safety. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Strategic Direction – Support the Deputy Mayor in developing the Office of Community Safety and associated change management strategies. Advise the Deputy Mayor on policy changes and scaling strategies. - Operations Coordination – Work with senior advisors, agencies, and City Hall staff to drive the Deputy Mayor’s priorities, communicate plans, and execute initiatives and implementation efforts. Manage and coordinate efforts across offices and agencies. - Project Management – In coordination with appropriate City agencies and team members, oversee and monitor agency and City Hall projects, legislation, and policy initiatives to ensure that goals and timelines are met. - External Affairs – Represent the administration in meetings with stakeholders, including government officials, cultural leaders, community organizations, and industry professionals. Create talking points, rollout plans, and speeches as needed. - Interagency Coordination – Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, and organizations as needed for special projects, operations, and implementation. - Managing the Deputy Mayor’s calendar, including: o Building a strategic and flexible calendar that is responsive to Deputy Mayor and Administration priorities and emergent needs. o Designing a system for tracking, triaging, and responding to requests for internal and external meetings, events, and speaking engagements. - Proactively reviewing the Deputy Mayor’s daily schedule and working with the DMCS team to ensure that the Deputy Mayor has all necessary materials for each meeting and event. - Leading regular meetings with both staff and the Deputy Mayor to review the upcoming schedule, consider invitations to events, and discuss preparation for meetings. - Coordinating high-level logistical support and requests between the Deputy Mayor, Community Safety agencies, and the Mayoral scheduling team. - Managing other administrative functions for the Deputy Mayor, including: o Coordinating the Deputy Mayor’s travel. o Ongoing maintenance of contact databases and call lists. o Coordinating Deputy Mayor's signature on necessary documents.

Requirements

  • You have a deep understanding of policy issues related to safety in the City of New York and the provision of services across its five boroughs.
  • You pay attention to detail and have excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage complex projects, sensitive information, analytical data, and multifaceted internal and external relationships.
  • You demonstrate experience in task and information management, including adhering to targeted deadlines and problem-solving.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience.
