About The Position

We are searching for a Senior Advisor. This role will provide recommendations and guidance to support NIH's goal to reduce/replace the use of animals in biomedical research, drug development, and regulatory testing. Develop policies that bridge the transition to non-human research models. Create strategies to implement policies, anticipate scientific/regulatory challenges, and bring the intra- and extra-mural communities into alignment with NIH's scientific goals involving novel alternative methods. Build community engagement to accelerate a transition toward human-relevant, nonanimal methods. Work with the research community, regulatory scientists, and policymakers to identify barriers, develop solutions, and advance technologies that modernize science and improve public health outcomes. This is a full-time hybrid opportunity supporting the office in Bethesda, MD. Provide advice on emerging issues affecting the Institute's research mandate. Work with staff to build and guide the execution of individual project plans for prioritized initiatives; manage and track the status. Identify gaps in existing scientific knowledge and provide recommendations for future research efforts. Coordinate and design activities related to the development, approvals and launching of new research funding concepts that utilize government grant and contract funding mechanisms. Develop and coordinate a plan for outreach and communication about the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of EIGHT (8) years of experience in biomedical research, AND/OR policy/program management.
  • Managing projects that combine science, artificial intelligence, and/or informational technology systems.
  • Engaging the scientific community, policymakers, and the public in a collaborative manner to obtain results.
  • Building and supporting effective communication strategies for the Division and NIH related to promoting research using non-animal models and alternatives.
  • Assessing relevance, translatability, and ethical considerations of non-human research models.
  • Developing and implementing policy options and recommendations relating to a variety of research models.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with NIH or HHS agencies preferred.
  • Using a variety of tools and techniques in analysis.
  • Summarizing scientific information for a variety of scientific and lay communities.
