We are charged with purpose, delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities across the province. We are energized to grow, embracing opportunities to shape the future of a dynamic and evolving energy sector while advancing our careers. We are powered by teamwork, supported by diverse and passionate colleagues who foster respect, celebrate successes, and thrive on shared achievements. At the IESO, it’s not just what we do—it’s who we are! Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come. This is a unionized position that falls within the Resource & System Adequacy Division within the Power System Development Business Unit. As part of the Resource Adequacy and Sector Evolution team, this role sits within the Resource and System Adequacy division, which leads the implementation and evolution of the Resource Adequacy Framework – the IESO’s strategic approach to acquiring electricity supply to meet demand reliably and affordably. The division’s functions include research, stakeholder engagement, design, and execution of acquisition mechanisms to meet system needs, including acquiring energy, capacity, ancillary services and transmission resources. The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference. The Senior Advisor, Resource Adequacy & Sector Evolution plays a key role in helping the IESO anticipate and address challenges in procuring the resources needed to meet future electricity demand. This position combines a forward-looking view with ongoing analysis of impacts and trends, to design and run procurements that are practical, efficient, and adaptable to support sector evolution. The Senior Advisor will advise on the technical, commercial, and policy considerations impacting electricity resource acquisition activities for the organization, including initiatives targeting energy and capacity supply services, transmission resources, and various ancillary / operability services. The Advisor will engage with stakeholders across the organization, as well as with developers, the finance community and other procurement entities in Canada, the U.S., and beyond, to share insights and identify emerging challenges. They will analyze procurement data and trends to generate actionable recommendations, and they will monitor policy developments to understand their potential impact on resource adequacy. This is a multifaceted, evolving role that requires curiosity, initiative, and strong analytical skills. Senior Advisors have the opportunity to investigate complex questions with a high degree of ambiguity, ranging from supply chain issues to policy shifts, and chart a path forward.
