About The Position

The Senior Advisor for Research Strategy & Operations is a key strategic partner to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), providing leadership and operational support for specific high-priority research initiatives and strategic planning projects, as determined by the CSO and Dana-Farber President & CEO. This role is responsible for conducting competitive market analyses, developing and managing the implementation of an integrated research strategic plan, and developing business and operating plans. The Senior Advisor collaborates with leadership, faculty, and external partners to identify domestic and global research market opportunities, discern institutional advantages, address vulnerabilities, and ensure alignment with institutional goals. This position requires a strong ability to synthesize complex information, manage cross-functional projects, and deliver actionable insights to advance Dana-Farber's research mission. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. Requirements

  • Master's degree in life sciences, public health, business administration, or a related field.
  • PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in research administration, strategic planning, or program management within a healthcare, academic, or research organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience in oncology or biomedical research preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting market research, developing strategic plans, and managing complex initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of research administration, strategic planning, and market analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with research management systems.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct competitive market research and analysis to maintain a current understanding of the global research environment.
  • Identify opportunities and vulnerabilities for Dana-Farber and develop strategies to enhance competitive advantages and market position.
  • Collaborate with leadership and external partners to support discussions on Dana-Farber's future direction and strategies.
  • Develop and manage an ongoing strategic planning process that integrates with financial planning (capital and operating), facilities planning, development, and performance management.
  • Support the implementation of the research strategic plan, ensuring responsiveness to the needs of the Institute and its faculty.
  • Create detailed operating and implementation plans for priority initiatives and provide oversight for their execution.
  • Track and report progress on planning projects and initiatives, comparing actual performance to goals and targets.
  • Conduct requisite analyses and develop business and operating plans for priority initiatives.
  • Provide project management assistance to ensure timely and successful execution of initiatives.
  • Monitor the progress of strategic initiatives and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Develop metrics and reporting tools to evaluate the success of initiatives and inform decision-making.
  • Partner with Institute leadership and cross-functional teams to support high-impact projects and initiatives.
  • Provide support for other cross-functional projects as directed by the CSO.
