About The Position

This is a professional position within the Florida Department of Children and Families, specifically in Hillsborough County, Circuit 13. The role involves conducting confidential investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults. A key aspect of this position is serving as a mentor to unit adult protective investigators, providing guidance, orientation to community and state agency partners, and ongoing support during their probationary period. The investigator is also responsible for referring vulnerable adults to appropriate service providers as determined by the investigation. Additionally, the role requires participation in scheduled in-service and pre-service training, conferences, staffings, and meetings. The Senior Adult Protective Investigator may also act as a Supervisor when needed, overseeing new intakes, assigning investigations, and ensuring timely review of safety assessments, 30-day reviews, and closures, while keeping the APS region program office informed of potential issues.

Requirements

  • Experience in emergency, tactical or customer/public complaint interactions utilizing communication technology, including basic computer and typing skills

  • Successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and, if applicable, Chapter 408, F.S.
  • No applicant may begin employment until the background screening results are received, reviewed for any disqualifying offenses, and approved by the Agency.
  • Background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for State and Federal criminal records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and may include local criminal history checks through local law enforcement agencies.
  • All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug testing in accordance with Section 112.0455, F.S., Drug-Free Workplace Act.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigations regarding allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.
  • Serves as a mentor to unit adult protective investigators.
  • Responsible for mentoring new adult protective investigators by taking them out to shadow prior to preservice training, orientation to community and state agency partners, and serves as the new API's mentor and contact during the probationary period.
  • Keeps the API supervisor, Operations Program Administrator, and APS region program office informed of potential issues including staffing, need for additional training, and higher level coaching of unit staff.
  • Refers vulnerale adult(s) to appropriate services providers as determined by the investigation which may be initiated at any point during the investigation.
  • Attends scheduled in-service and/or pre-service training as required.
  • Participates in conferences, staffings and meetings as required
  • Serves as the Acting Supervisor when the supervisor is unavailable by reviewing new intakes from the Florida Abuse Hotline for appropriateness; assigns investigaions as appropriate; completes critical and thorough review of submitted safety assessments, 30-day reviews and closures timely.
  • Keeps APS region program office informed of potential issues including staffing, and need for additional trainings.
  • Perform all job tasks in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and requirements applicable to state and federal laws or procedures.
