About The Position

Nautilus Insurance Group is seeking a Lead Reserving Actuary to join their team in Scottsdale, AZ on a hybrid basis. This role involves preparing and overseeing the quarterly actuarial reserving process while collaborating closely with the Chief Actuary. The position requires strong technical skills and effective communication to ensure comprehensive reserve analysis. The Lead Reserving Actuary will lead various processes within the department, perform advanced actuarial analysis, and collaborate with underwriting, claims, and pricing actuaries to ensure accurate reserve analysis. The role also includes building relationships with senior management, managing priorities, supporting financial reporting, and providing training and mentoring to team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of Property/Casualty actuarial work, with Commercial Lines Reserving experience preferred.
  • ACAS designation highly preferred.
  • Well-organized and flexible with the ability to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SQL, R, and Visual Basic.
  • Experience with Arius Reserving Software is highly beneficial.
  • Practical experience using statistical techniques to build predictive models.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and oversee the quarterly actuarial reserving process.
  • Lead processes for the department such as Reserving Analyses, Modeling, and Budget.
  • Perform advanced actuarial analysis, including advanced analytics and modeling.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and pricing actuaries to ensure accurate reserve analysis.
  • Build relationships with senior management to become a trusted advisor.
  • Lead projects to refine key assumptions in the reserve analysis process.
  • Manage priorities to meet deadlines and keep discretionary projects moving.
  • Support the monthly and quarterly financial close with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy in reserve analyses.
  • Communicate trends and patterns in key claim metrics with Claims.
  • Provide training and mentoring to team members.
