About The Position

This position performs a variety of specialized, complex accounting duties related to cash, accounts receivable, grants and the general ledger, requiring the application of advanced accounting methods and the knowledge of a range of accounting principles. Supports special projects including annual audit, budget development, and periodic financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in accounting or closely related field (preferably in a governmental or educational setting).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger / chart of accounts.
  • Conduct general ledger analysis; prepare account reconciliations to ensure the general ledger is balanced.
  • Prepare journal entries to record financial transactions; review and post journal entries.
  • Manage the accounting and financial reporting for fixed assets, information technology subscriptions, and debt.
  • Maintain grant and contract files; manage billing and fee collection of grants and contracts.
  • Provide guidance and support on grant-related financial matters including budget management and expenditure tracking; collaborate with staff to ensure grant funds are used effectively and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare or assist with various reports for federal, state and other governmental agencies and meet quarterly, annual or other deadlines to ensure compliance with program, grant or contract requirements.
  • Record cash receipts; reconcile tax receipts from counties and state school fund payments from the Oregon Department of Education.
  • Reconcile cash accounts to bank statements.
  • Monitor cash flow requirements for operations; make appropriate transfers of funds as needed.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation; assist with the implementation and maintenance of department budgets; provide training and support to facilitate department-based financial management.
  • Assist in annual financial audit; compile year-end reports, work papers and analysis necessary.
  • Keep current on federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development, improvement and implementation of effective internal controls to safeguard assets; monitor internal controls through policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Achieve a broad familiarity with the programs and personnel of the district; work collaboratively to strengthen departmental teaming in order to accomplish common goals.
  • Demonstrate skills in communication with staff, component districts, and the public; maintain a high level of discretion, accuracy and clarity.
  • Exercise a high level of independence and judgment in originating, planning and adapting systems to accomplish tasks.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
