About The Position

The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) is currently seeking a proactive Senior Accountant who will be dedicated to ensuring financial integrity and operational excellence. This role is central to the month-end close process and produces accurate financial data that informs business decisions. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for analyzing transactions, strengthening internal controls and delivering reliable reporting that stakeholders can trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. GAAP.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, operations and best practices for internal controls in accounting operations.
  • Five years of relevant experience with proficiency in accounting software.
  • Effective communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative on assigned projects, manage time effectively and work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full accounts receivable cycle, including e-billing, cash applications, reconciliations, collections, and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, submit retirement/HSA contributions, and ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
  • Lead month-end close activities by preparing journal entries, performing bank reconciliations, and analyzing budget variances.
  • Manage accounts payable and corporate expense reimbursement, including vendor payments and year-end 1099 support.
  • Reconcile third-party administrator (TPA) accounts for 401(k), FSA, and other employee savings plans on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and calculate monthly depreciation schedules.
  • Support annual financial, 401(k), and workers' compensation audits by preparing requested documentation.
  • Assist with tax compliance for sales/use, payroll, and other applicable filings and regulatory reports.
  • Train staff and stakeholders on financial systems, policies, and procedures, such as expense reporting and timekeeping.
  • Analyze and report on financial performance by preparing budget-to-actual reports and conducting analytical reviews.
