About The Position

Merrell Bros., Inc. is a family-owned business that has been in operation for over forty years and is the fourth largest biosolids management company nationwide. We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing team at our Corporate Headquarters location in Kokomo, Indiana. This position will report to executive management and will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities and other related financial matters. This position will work directly with the CFO, Director of Finance and Controller to complete tasks. The ideal candidate must be extremely detail oriented, organized and able to multi-task. They must have efficient independent working capability.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • A minimum of one-year of related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Assist with preparing quarterly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Assist with maintaining depreciation schedules and fixed asset activity.
  • Assist with preparation for annual financial statement review by outside CPA firm.
  • Provides regulatory authorities with assistance as needed.
  • Research tax guidance and help to ensure compliance with state taxing authorities.
  • Prepare requested data for ongoing ERP implementation.
  • Reconcile data and reports between accounting system and operational systems as needed for the ERP implementation
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
