Senior Accountant

Salma HealthSan Mateo, CA
$75,000 - $100,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role on Salma Health's Finance team, owning the day-to-day accounting operations that keep a fast-growing, multi-site healthcare organization running with precision. Reporting to the Controller, you will manage the full accounting cycle — from general ledger maintenance and month-end close to financial reporting and audit and tax support — while navigating the nuances of healthcare revenue and multi-entity operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a high-growth environment and takes pride in building clean, compliant books. Location: Hybrid – preferred in-office Monday–Wednesday at our San Mateo headquarters, with flexibility to work remotely for candidates based in PST zone states.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a healthcare, multi-site, or similarly complex environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of GAAP, with demonstrated experience applying standards to ASC 842, ASC 606,, accruals, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle and payer mix accounting, including familiarity with CPT codes, insurance adjudication, and behavioral health or psychiatry billing.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Ramp, Candid, Everest or comparable platforms) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing deadlines with precision — you close the books on time, every time, without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear narratives for non-finance stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience navigating a MSO/PC relationship is preferred.
  • Background in high-growth or acquisition-stage companies, with exposure to integrating financial systems and processes across newly acquired entities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting cycle, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements that reflect the true performance of a multi-site healthcare organization.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across all clinic locations, resolving discrepancies with speed and precision to keep our books audit-ready at all times.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports — including P&L statements, balance sheets, and variance analyses — that equip leadership with the insights needed to drive strategic decisions.
  • Support external audits and tax filings by preparing work papers, coordinating documentation, and serving as a knowledgeable point of contact for auditors and advisors.
  • Partner cross-functionally with clinic operations, billing, and leadership teams to improve financial processes, identify cost drivers, and support budget planning and forecasting cycles.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, healthcare industry regulations, and state-specific requirements, proactively flagging risks and recommending corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the financial infrastructure build-out as Salma Health scales — including ERP/accounting system improvements, policy documentation, and internal controls development.
