About The Position

As a Senior Accountant at Backroads, you will play a critical role in helping us oversee our international accounting, external international audit, compliance, and statutory reporting. You will work collaboratively across the organization, ensuring compliance with multi-county regulations, managing cross-border transactions, and providing accurate, timely reporting for internal stakeholders and external authorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including international accounting and consolidation under U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with multi-currency accounting, inter-company reconciliations, and eliminations.
  • Strong working knowledge of foreign currency translation and remeasurement.
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions, all tailored to our business model and industry.
  • Expert attention to details and strong adherence to quality and accuracy of work product.
  • Communication skills: Effective communication with diverse stakeholders across multiple time zones and cultures.
  • Proven ability to communicate financial story in business terms tailored to our industry.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems; experience with NetSuite, Oracle, Workday, Epicor or similar preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close for international legal entities, ensuring compliance with local GAAP and IFRS.
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly general ledgers for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Prepare or review account reconciliations prepared by foreign subsidiary staff and/or external service providers.
  • Oversee inter-company transactions, post and review journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and inter-company reconciliations, currency revaluation and translation adjustments.
  • Prepare and review monthly consolidated financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage preparation and review of statutory financial statements across multiple countries.
  • Monitor and implement changes to international accounting standards and regulations.
  • Provide meaningful reporting to management to ensure confidence in the excellence of subsidiary accounting processes and procedures.
  • Support annual statutory audits for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual inter-company agreements in compliance with transfer pricing requirements.
  • Prepare and review VAT/GST returns, corporate tax filings, and other country specific tax obligations.
  • Maintain compliance with statutory reporting requirements in all jurisdictions & partner with external tax advisors to resolve complex cross-border tax matters.
  • Ensure timely submission of government and regulatory filings across all countries of operations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline consolidation and reporting processes.
  • Partner with treasury, tax, and FP&A teams to ensure aligned and accurate reporting.
