About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing and overseeing key accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and reconciliations. This role also plays an integral part in budget development, variance analysis, and cash management analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide meaningful financial insights that support management decision-making.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and financial reporting responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with budgeting, variance analysis, and cash flow analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit finance and accounting, particularly healthcare, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of supporting schedules and analyses.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and explanations as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with preparation of management reports summarizing financial results, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual financial statements and other regulatory filings as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and multi-year forecasts in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and prepare variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial performance and forecast updates.
  • Prepare short-term and long-term cash flow projections.
  • Prepare regular cash flow reports and analysis for management review.
  • Support treasury-related activities as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Lead and participate in system upgrades, process automation, and implementation of new financial tools.
  • Participate in special projects as requested by leadership.
  • Maintains competency annually, reviews and completes all assigned tasks (i.e., job description review, annual training) by assigned deadlines.
  • Creates and fosters positive professional relationships for enhanced collaboration with internal and external customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Communicates corporate culture internally and externally.
