Description of Duties: The Senior Accountant is a licensed CPA with strong public accounting experience, particularly within membership associations and nonprofit organizations. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial reporting, audits, month-end close, and cross-departmental collaboration to support strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Budgyt, and Altai (AMS).
  • Historical knowledge of Great Plains and iMIS.
  • Strong ability to run and interpret financial reports and analyze data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to senior leadership and boards.
  • Strong project management capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally and solve problems proactively.
  • Able to perform more varied and difficult tasks.
  • Able to work in a collaborative team environment to obtain the best results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close procedures, including reviewing account reconciliations and preparing, proposing, and posting journal entries with management approval.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Analyze financial data, run appropriate reports, and provide actionable feedback to department heads.
  • Communicate financial results to the Budget & Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees in a clear, professional manner.
  • Serve as key staff support for annual audits, coordinating documentation, responses, and schedules.
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Partner with internal teams to identify issues, develop solutions, and streamline financial processes.
  • Manage and prioritize accounting projects to meet deadlines and organizational goals.
