About The Position

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant oversees the balancing of all loan, share, and cash management accounts within the Episys Symitar core system, as well as CUSO accounting and reporting and assigned regulatory reporting for United Heritage Credit Union. This role manages assigned general ledger accounts to ensure accurate and timely reconciliations and researches and resolves discrepancies as they arise. The Senior Accountant also serves as a key operational resource to the accounting team by acting as a point of escalation, providing guidance on complex issues, and supporting day-to-day workflows.

Requirements

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related field.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated GAAP accounting experience with progressive responsibilities related to general ledger entries, reconciliation, and balancing techniques.
  • Knowledge of advanced financial accounting practices and procedures, GAAP and regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with a variety of internal and external clients providing effective interpersonal communication and team skills.
  • Understanding of MS Office Suite with proficient technical and computer skills; ability to navigate quickly and accurately within various computer programs.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of demonstrated GAAP accounting or deposit operations experience in a credit union or bank setting with progressive responsibilities related to consumer and/or mortgage lending.
  • Experience with Episys Quest (Symitar).
  • Knowledge of Credit Union federal and state rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Accounting Manager in monitoring departmental data metrics to ensure key performance indicators (KPIs), service levels, and deadlines are met.
  • Support the Accounting Manager in ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and internal controls; escalate identified issues as appropriate.
  • Analyze accounting procedures, identify discrepancies, trends, and process gaps, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall operational effectiveness; assist in developing and maintaining procedures and job aids.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for accounting staff, providing guidance on complex reconciliations, general ledger discrepancies, adjusting entries, and transaction-related inquiries; ensure timely research, resolution, and appropriate escalation to the Accounting Manager.
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations, including reconciliation completion, general ledger integrity, and month-end close processes.
  • Promote positive working relationships with team members and internal departments while modeling professionalism and accountability.
  • Manage the balancing of loan and deposit core accounts and perform timely reconciliation of daily transactions to the general ledger.
  • Coordinate and execute general ledger configuration and reconciliation procedures related to new Credit Union product implementations.
  • Reconcile daily teller activity to the general ledger and ensure prompt investigation and resolution of variances.
  • Responsible for the preparation of assigned CUSO financial reports, financial statement preparation and analysis, and various other reports as assigned.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of group medical insurance accounts with third-party providers and ensure accurate reconciliation of related disbursements, including initiating stop payments on stale dated items, as necessary.
  • Manage the balancing of FRB, FHLB, Brinks, and all corporate cash accounts.
  • Monitor and reconcile branch staff cash account balances, ITMs, and cash recyclers, including any needed corrections.
  • Perform daily balancing of real estate loan disbursements and Cenlar onboarding activity for the Real Estate Lending Department.
  • Reconcile daily and monthly real estate loan sales to third party purchasers, and balance daily Cenlar financial reports, cash management activity, and related general ledger clearing accounts.
  • Utilize established internal controls to ensure reliable financial records, operational efficiency, and financial reporting is in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist auditors and examiners in reviewing the financial accounts of the Credit Union and CUSOs and provide required accounting information and documentation, as applicable.
  • Maintain current and relevant working knowledge of accounting best practices, GAAP, general ledger accounts, accounting spreadsheets, and banking operations.
