About The Position

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the company's accounting system, which is mission-critical to overall operations. This position is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions, providing financial analysis, and supporting compliance with GAAP and DCAA guidelines. The Senior Accountant exercises a high level of discretion and independent judgement, ensures adherence to established accounting policies and procedures and proactively identifies opportunities for process improvements. This role also provides guidance and mentorship to accounting staff and supports leadership with financial reporting and audit readiness. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance in a fast-paced government contracting environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in government contracting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and DCAA compliance requirements
  • Advance proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Unanet and WAWF systems strongly preferred
  • Experience mentoring or supervising accounting staff preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform full-cycle accounting functions, including accountas payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR) and general ledger activities.
  • Review, analyze, and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and monthly closing activities
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide detailed reporting and recommendations to management
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, DCAA, and applicable federal and state regulations
  • Support and coordinate annual audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor requests
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies and procedures
  • Monitor cash flow, billing, and collection; follow up on outstanding receivables
  • Oversee vendor payments, invoice processing, and approval workflows
  • Prepare and review financial reports, including AP aging, AR aging, and other management reports
  • Maintain and reconcile payroll-related entries, including ADP and Unanet reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate processing of timecards and cost allocations for government contracts
  • Prepare and review 1099 reporting and other required tax filings
  • Maintain contract records and ensure accurate billing in Unanet and WAWF systems
  • Develop, document, and enhance accounting processes and standard operating procedures
  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to junior accounting staff
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, vendors, and clients
  • Support system implementation, upgrades and data integrity initiatives
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned
