About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance Department. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with month-end accounting and other various projects that relate to treasury, accounting, SOX internal controls and financial reporting in US GAAP. The role is based at our Vancouver office and reports to the Manager, Operations Accounting. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a publicly traded company
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team and across functional areas.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation in progress preferred
  • Experience with SAP, US GAAP and SOX each considered an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial reporting tools is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounting reports and analysis with minimal guidance.
  • Assist with treasury activities.
  • Assist with the month-end activities for subsidiary companies.
  • Assist with preparation of working papers for tax returns and other tax filings, including Sales tax and Personal property taxes.
  • Support external financial reporting, including MD&A, financial statement notes, and audit schedules.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support internal and external SOX audits, including coordination with auditors and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Perform lead role in maintaining spread sheets for the financial governance supporting the recurring DoE loan advance and withdrawal process.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, including ESTMA filings, financial surveys (including Stats Canada), and other non- financial reporting requirements (including tax and investment quarterly reporting of investments between different entities).
  • Support special projects, system improvements, and process optimization initiatives
  • Mentor and review work of intermediate accounting staff, as applicable
