As a Senior Accountant supporting the Controllership accounting function, you will have the opportunity to be part of an incredible team that supports our growing and complex global business. Our teams lead the accounting for multiple disciplines within the organization, including financial reporting, retail and licensed coffeehouse portfolio operations, investments, compensation, business development, corporate treasury and risk functions, and occupancy. This individual contributor will support accounting close and financial reporting activities, develop reporting and analyses to maintain accuracy of the financial statements, implement and document new and current accounting processes, provide accounting guidance to support business & investment initiatives, prepare deliverables to support SEC filings, and provide coaching to team members to achieve business results. You will collaborate with teams across Starbucks to help grow our existing business, support new initiatives, and drive other technical accounting projects, as well as prepare and review quarterly financial reporting deliverables for respective areas.

Requirements

  • Experience in accounting at a professional level, including journal entries, account reconciliation, reporting and analysis or equivalent experience. (3+ years)
  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using an ERP system and business intelligence and reporting tools (such as Hyperion, Anaplan, and Oracle) preferred.
  • Experience using an SEC reporting system (such as Workiva) preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Be an integral part of the success of the team – You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing journal entries and/or financial statement disclosures for accuracy and compliance with company policies and applicable accounting principles. You will reconcile accounts and review account reconciliations prepared by others.
  • Maintain and develop various accounting systems and processes – You will be responsible for maintaining and developing the various systems in your area and will have the opportunity to recommend and implement improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Support month and quarter end close – You will perform trend and variance analysis as part of month- and quarter-end close. You will support quarterly earnings reporting and ongoing budget and forecasting processes and effectively produce ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business operational, financial and strategic decisions.
  • Help develop global accounting policies – You will research new or existing accounting guidance for business transactions, summarize and recommend the appropriate accounting approach to management, and prepare or review accounting memos.
  • Train and coach others – You will assist managers with facilitating cross-training amongst the team and tracking of day-to-day tasks and setting team priorities. You may lead or support special projects as assigned.

  • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.
  • For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
