The Senior Accountant position is a core accounting and analytics role supporting the Controller in all accounting related matters. The individual in this role is responsible for accounting and finance activities, including monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, budget to actual and trend analysis, financial statement preparation, and ability to summarize financial results for non-financial staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum education - Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum work experience – 5+ years accounting related positions, with continued expansion of scope.
  • Previous accounting software experience.
  • Proven experience in account reconciliation and analysis.
  • Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare required journal entries, including reclassifications for all assigned accounts
  • Prepare and/or review all assigned account analyses.
  • Maintain complete and accurate workpapers supporting account balances.
  • Prepare trend analyses and budget-to-actual comparisons.
  • Summarize major drivers of changes in financial results.
  • Assist in preparing consolidated and departmental financial statements.
  • Provide support for the annual audit process.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual external reports.
  • Meet with department leaders to review financial results and explain budget variances.
  • Provide support in the agency’s annual budgeting process.
  • Document key accounting processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
