Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience with month-end closings, financial reporting, and using data to identify trends, investigate variances, and advise on solutions.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) and accounting software skills.
  • Deep understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license or progress toward CPA (or similar certification) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review Staff Accountants’ work for accuracy, ensuring proper coding, reconciliations, and compliance with firm/client standards.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for one or more clients, handling moderate to complex inquiries, budgeting updates, and operational issues.
  • Prepare or review monthly and quarterly financial statements, interpret data, and present findings to clients or managers.
  • Manage the close process, including complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Recommend workflow enhancements or internal controls to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Coach Staff Accountants on technical issues, best practices, and professional development.
  • If relevant, oversee grant accounting, voucher submissions, and annual or periodic reports to funding agencies.
