About the position

The Senior Accountant will be an instrumental member of the Pioneering Medicines finance team, reporting to the Controller, Pioneering Medicines. In this exciting role, the Senior Accountant will have exposure to a wide range of exciting strategies, accounting and financial reporting systems and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with month- and quarter-end close for entities in the Pioneering Medicines organization ensuring compliance with US GAAP, including preparation of traditional journal entries and account reconciliations relating to cash, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, debt, and equity
  • Manage ASC 842 lease accounting process
  • Monitor, track and record capital project expenditures
  • Assist with on-going financial reporting standards and close processes to align the business and implement regular cadence of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements to various stakeholders
  • Partner with Controller to develop and prepare and update annual budget and forecasts
  • Preparation and assistance with year-end tax and reporting deliverables
  • Provide support for annual financial statement audits and periodic reviews
  • Assist with specific projects and initiatives unique to a fast-growing biotechnology start-up, such as system implementations and updates and business process improvements
  • Consult with business operating unit to ensure purchasing is efficient and within guidelines
  • Provide Ad-Hoc reporting and analysis

Requirements

  • 3+ years of financial and accounting experience. Life sciences / biotechnology industry preferred
  • BS/BA in accounting or finance, MBA is a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong business acumen
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with NetSuite, FinQuery a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team setting
  • Ability to work within and meet all deadlines while executing on multiple deliverables
  • Experience in managing budgets, including research collaboration budgets is preferred
  • Flexible, personable team-player, comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to set and meet ambitious deadlines, manage numerous multifaceted financial matters and see projects through to conclusion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both scientists and management
  • Ability to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgement
