About The Position

The Senior Accountant at Altru Health System is a pivotal role that encompasses advanced accounting responsibilities, leadership, and strategic financial analysis to support the financial operations and decision-making processes of the organization. This position is responsible for reviewing and approving journal entries, posting complex entries, and overseeing the Month End Close process and analysis. The Senior Accountant will determine monthly accruals, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and maintain general ledger accounts. Additionally, the role involves auditing financial software and systems for compliance and internal control, leading financial audits and regulatory reporting, and analyzing financial information such as forecasting and projections. In this role, the Senior Accountant will lead and participate in specialized projects, prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and operational reports, and perform other duties as assigned. Essential job functions include maintaining the chart of accounts for Altru and its affiliates, which involves creating new GL departments and subaccounts, setting up new corporations, and updating financial statements. The position requires knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. The Senior Accountant will prepare journal entries and approve the accounting staff's journal entries with supporting schedules. They will present monthly operational results to leadership and explain variances from the budget. Conducting analysis to provide insights that identify trends, variances, and opportunities for financial improvement is a key aspect of this role. The Senior Accountant will initiate and evaluate the month-end general ledger close process for Altru and its affiliates, reconcile general ledger accounts with subsidiary ledgers, and report monthly. They will also prepare financial statements, presentations, and reports as requested by leadership, bondholders, and external auditing firms. Moreover, the Senior Accountant will review elimination entries and verify the accuracy and timeliness of consolidated financial statements. Monitoring the development and implementation of internal control procedures to safeguard financial assets and ensure accuracy in financial processes is crucial. The role also involves monitoring compliance with regulatory agencies and relevant accounting standards, researching and implementing AICPA pronouncements as required, and leading the preparation and coordination of audits while providing necessary documentation in a timely manner. The Senior Accountant will provide guidance and support to accounting staff, fostering their professional growth and development, and perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department and organization.
