Senior Accountant, Treasury position is ideal for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, extraordinary drive and a strong attention to detail and accuracy. A successful Specialist III combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to process financial transactions, prepare financial entries, account reconciliations, and analyze financial reports. The ideal candidate also has experience collaborating on a team to complete timely monthly, quarterly and fiscal year end close. Currently, this is a remote-first position, and this position may be required to periodically work on-site at our office and the frequency would depend on the department/division's requirements. Therefore, candidates must either reside within a reasonable distance to commute to our office or be willing to travel to our office in Herndon, when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance, or a combination of education and experience including military service will also be considered.
  • 8 years of overall professional experience.
  • 6 years of progressively responsible Accounting experience, such as general ledger management, financial reporting, with a strong focus on GAAP compliance, month end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Experience with analyzing data and preparing recommendations/reports.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of and experience with grant regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to Federal and foundation grant funding and programs.
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to not-for-profit organizations.
  • Strong conflict resolution, time management, attention to detail, critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to: Work both independently and successfully on a team.
  • Facilitate problem solving, and resolution.
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, and personable demeanor.

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the Clearinghouse's core competencies: Customer Focus, Optimizes Work Processes, Collaborates, Communicates Effectively, and Be Open and Authentic.
  • Prepare monthly schedules and accounting entries to ensure a timely and accurate monthly close.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Assist with short-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor daily cash balances and cash position reports.
  • Initiate wire transfers and ACH payments.
  • Provide reporting on liquidity, investments, and debt, including debt service schedules.
  • Assist with annual and interim audit requests.
  • Supports tracking of fixed assets, prepaids and amortization accounts.
  • Support for payroll processing.
  • Demonstrate openness to new perspectives and ideas.
  • Build trust with internal and external stakeholders by demonstrating consistency between words and actions.
  • Prepare grant cash, staff allocation and revenue entries.
  • Prepare monthly deferred revenue reconciliations.
  • Assist with annual 990 Tax Return by preparing assigned schedules.
  • Assist with the implementation and analysis of new and existing Accounting Guidance.
  • Position may be required to perform other duties as required.
