About The Position

Kemper, a publicly traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company that has exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with the Corporate, P&C, and Life investment accounting for monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting
  • 5-8 years of experience in corporate accounting
  • Insurance / financial services experience is a plus
  • Investment accounting a plus
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Familiarity with both US GAAP and statutory accounting principles is a plus
  • Experience navigating a large ERP environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel
  • Experience in Workday and Blackline a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare and review various reporting schedules
  • Consolidate information for internal and external financial reporting
  • Work with internal and external auditors and provide necessary support
  • Prepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requests
  • Actively identify and complete process improvement projects
  • Review work of Staff Accountants and provide meaningful feedback
  • Create and perform ad hoc queries and analyses as needed
