About The Position

The Sr Accountant position within the International Finance group at Travelers is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This role involves preparing financial activities, conducting variance analysis, and supporting intercompany transactions, all while fostering a strong control environment. The position offers exposure to a multinational environment and collaboration with various corporate support areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or professional designations such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Two years of finance, accounting, financial planning, or related experience.
  • Experience with accounting theory and practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with business partners.
  • Ability to analyze data to interpret trends and provide insights to management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Ability to foresee challenges and proactively look for ways to create more efficient processes for the business.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).

  • Experience in a multinational environment.
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, review, and analyze financial data for variance analysis, reporting, and accuracy.
  • Support intercompany services & reinsurance transactions between foreign subsidiaries by recording activity in compliance with intercompany agreements and prepare quarterly invoicing.
  • Support tax compliance around transfer pricing, foreign business travel, and other statutory requirements.
  • Prepare Account Reconciliations in line with established policies, identifying and resolving balance differences as necessary.
  • Support quality assurance reviews over account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and create analyses to support financial/business budgets.
  • Process expenses in accordance with established expense policy and procedures, ensuring timely processing of invoices and accuracy of banking and supplier information.
  • Review external financial statements including GAAP, SEC, STAT, and IFRS.
  • Perform financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements consistent with corporate policies and standards.
  • Prepare and review documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • May provide coaching, training, and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
