Responsibilities

  • Review accounting documents for accuracy and make correcting entries.
  • Input all general ledger vouchers.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and create or modify account numbers and descriptions.
  • Examine supporting documentation for proper authorization and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain subsidiary ledgers for various accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain control and subsidiary accounting records for various transactions.
  • Prepare trial balances, financial reports, journal entries, and reconcile accounts.
  • Compile financial statements and reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations for various accounts and funds.
  • Record interest and activity, and reconcile missed transactions.
  • Prepare journal vouchers on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Research and calculate special assessment taxation.
  • Assist in budget preparation and produce budgetary worksheets.
  • Maintain expenditure and budgetary control accounts.
  • Produce monthly reports for departments and summaries for the City Council.
  • Prepare cash transfers and loans between funds.
  • Assist in controlling the City's investment account.
  • Provide grant accounting for funds received from other agencies.
  • Prepare annual financial reports for the State Controllers Office.
  • Install new accounting systems and procedures and train others in their use.
  • Perform cost studies and analyze cost factors.
  • Review and recommend modifications to current accounting practices.
  • Provide work direction and training to accounting staff.
  • Assist City auditor at year-end and prepare audit schedules.
  • Answer auditor questions regarding procedures and reports.
  • Reconcile accounts at year-end and prepare financial statements.
  • Enter and retrieve data from accounting systems and prepare reports.
  • Prepare and update periodic reports requiring complex calculations.
  • Ensure proper processing of employee retirement funds and verify retirement payments.
  • Research retirement-related questions from employees and retirees.
  • Establish and maintain City accounting records and office files.
  • Perform daily backups of mainframe computer and coordinate repairs.
  • Represent the City at meetings and serve on committees as assigned.
