The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates for the position of Senior Accessibility Specialist. This role involves performing complex professional and advisory functions in application services, conducting research and analysis on assistive technology, software tools, and best practices to ensure compliance with the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA). The position includes developing and implementing training and communications to educate technical staff and technology users on IITAA requirements. Additionally, the Senior Accessibility Specialist will serve as a lead worker, assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance and training to staff, and advising supervisors on performance.

  • Perform complex professional and advisory functions in application services.
  • Conduct research and analysis on assistive technology and software tools.
  • Develop and implement training and communications on IITAA requirements.
  • Serve as a designated lead worker, assigning and reviewing work.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the information technology field.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Knowledge equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or related fields.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in application services or a related IT field.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience promoting and ensuring compliance with IITAA standards.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience using assistive technology and accessibility tools.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience monitoring and reporting on compliance with IITAA.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience creating user-centric documentation.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience reviewing and analyzing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATS).
  • Two (2) years of experience managing accessibility-related contracts.
