The position involves operating a tractor-trailer truck for both short and long distances to deliver products to customers. The driver will be responsible for planning and adjusting routes to meet delivery schedules and deadlines, utilizing GPS and other navigation tools. Additionally, the role includes supervising and assisting in the safe loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring that freight is counted, verified, and secured to prevent damage. Daily vehicle inspections and maintenance checks are required to ensure the truck is in safe working condition, with any mechanical issues reported to the appropriate personnel. Accurate record keeping of working hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery confirmations is essential, often using electronic logging devices (ELDs). Effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members is necessary to provide status updates, report delays, or address issues. The driver must follow all applicable traffic laws, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and company safety policies, including adhering to mandatory rest periods and safe driving practices. Professional interaction with clients during pickups and deliveries is expected, along with a strong emphasis on dependability and reliability.
