About The Position

Kodiak Freight is seeking a Semi-Trailer Technician to support our growing asset-based fleet. This role works directly alongside our Head Mechanic, focusing primarily on trailer maintenance, repair, and preventative upkeep across our Flatbed, RGN, and Conestoga equipment.This is not a full diesel mechanic position. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and experienced with trailer systems, tires, brakes, decking, and general repairs that keep equipment safe, compliant, and road-ready.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working on semi-trailers or heavy equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of: Flatbed and specialty trailers (RGN, Conestoga preferred)
  • Trailer braking systems, tires, and suspension
  • Ability to use shop tools, air tools, jacks, torches, and diagnostic equipment
  • Basic welding or fabrication experience preferred
  • Familiarity with DOT standards and inspection requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in flatbed or heavy-haul environments
  • Mechanical certifications (ASE a plus, not required)
  • CDL (Class A or B) is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on Flatbed, RGN, and Conestoga trailers
  • Inspect and repair: Flooring, decking, and structural components
  • Tie-downs, winches, straps, rails, and load securement systems
  • Conestoga tarping systems, frames, rollers, and hardware
  • Conduct DOT-related inspections and address trailer compliance issues
  • Assist with welding, grinding, and fabrication as needed (basic to intermediate)
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance programs for trailers
  • Identify early wear or damage to minimize downtime
  • Maintain maintenance logs and service documentation
  • Coordinate repair priorities with the Head Mechanic and Dispatch
  • Perform tire repair and replacement (trailer tires)
  • Inspect and service brakes, hubs, bearings, suspension, and axles
  • Assist with air system troubleshooting related to trailers
  • Assist with parts inventory and organization
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
  • Support fleet readiness during peak project or seasonal demand
  • Provide roadside or yard support when necessary (local)
