About The Position

As part of the ADHD and Behavior Disorder Center Summer Program team, you will report to the Director, Summer Program. The Summer Program is a four-week immersive summer treatment program that serves children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, and related learning, social, and behavioral challenges. You will receive training in empirically supported behavior management techniques to assist children in developing positive and pro-social behaviors. Children have one period per day in SEL lessons led by SEL teacher(s), while the remainder of the day consists of academic and recreationally based group activities. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position at the Allen-Stevenson School and the Child Mind Institute's NYC headquarters. Teachers must be available for all required training, preparation sessions, and for the full duration of the program. Please review all the dates below.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher with three or more years of experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching elementary-age students; special education experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience leading groups in summer camps, after-school programs, daycare, or educational settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified School Counselor or Social Worker with active certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans and collaborate with lead staff to develop activities focused on emotion identification, emotion regulation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Teach multiple 60-minute social-emotional learning center blocks each day with built-in hands-on activities, games, and challenges.
  • Manage the learning needs of classrooms consisting of 9-11 age-matched children with a range of learning, social, and behavioral needs.
  • Implement and monitor a comprehensive behavior modification plan in collaboration with counselors during SEL lessons and activities.
  • Support counselors throughout the day under the supervision of lead staff.
  • Participate in structured assessments to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Prepare a brief report card summary of each child's growth and ongoing learning needs at the program's conclusion.
  • Review treatment and school records to optimize treatment gains.ach Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills to students in a summer program setting, utilizing evidence-based curricula and instructional strategies.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that promote students' self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
  • Collaborate with program staff to integrate SEL skills into daily activities and provide a cohesive program experience for students.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social-emotional growth of students.
