About The Position

The SEI Instructional Aide will be responsible for assisting in the instruction of English Learner (EL) students through Sheltered English Immersion methodology. The candidate will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to provide instruction to individual or small groups of students in the classroom; prepare instructional materials; attend meetings; and perform a variety of routine duties as assigned. The Instructional Aide should be familiar with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the MA Curriculum Frameworks. The candidate will demonstrate high expectations for students, be effective in assisting the teacher and immigrant families, and help to create an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university, with courses in second language acquisition and/or education preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A willingness to engage in further training and coursework to build instructional capacity to meet the needs of all learners.
• Culturally responsive and attentive to the needs of diverse families and educators.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of experience working in a linguistically diverse or urban setting preferred.
• Proficiency in English and fluency in a language other than English (Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, Somali, Arabic, or other language) preferred, but not required.
