General Purpose of Job: Performs general maintenance and repair tasks on various building systems; identifies system problems, coordinates service/repair needs with vendors and contractors, communicates status of issues with staff, supervisors, and patients.

  • Performs general maintenance and repair tasks on various building systems, including plumbing, electrical and HVAC; determines system problems and identifies corrective action necessary.
  • Prepares meeting rooms including setting up tables and chairs.
  • Conducts testing of various building systems such as fire extinguishers and emergency generators in accordance with regulatory requirements and Hospital policies; notifies management of malfunctions as needed. Utilizes PPE as required.
  • Responds to emergency and problem building situations; ability to be on-call.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance tasks such as pulling weeds, clearing away litter, shoveling snow, salting walkways and operating plow equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records of building maintenance activities.
  • Works cooperatively and maintains communication with other departments and external contractors to coordinate activities, resolve problems and exchange information.
  • Makes courier runs transporting mail and supplies to various departments within and outside the Hospital.
  • Maintains work areas and ensures that tools and equipment are operational, clean and orderly.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures and compliance guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Valid Driver License
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and safety precautions involved in the maintenance and repair of building systems
  • Basic troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the facilities management function
  • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in a professional manner with staff, patients and their families, and visitors while performing assigned tasks
  • Analytical ability and mechanical aptitude to identify and resolve a variety of building equipment problems in a cost-effective and timely manner
  • Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, and respond to emergency building situations; use of PPE as required
  • Physical ability to reach/stoop/bend/kneel/crouch, climb ladders, lift heavy items, and properly operate tools/equipment necessary to perform required repairs
  • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Fork lift training
  • Prior related Hospital maintenance experience
