About The Position

The Seed Science Operations Agronomist at BASF will be responsible for managing canola field trials in Western Kansas, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality data collection to support Breeding and Trait Development programs. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders and adherence to compliance guidelines, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.

Requirements

  • BS in agriculture or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in crop yield trialing, high throughput phenotyping, crop modeling, and experimental designs.
  • Experience with canola agronomy.
  • Experience in conducting research trials using statistical design and analysis, canola botany, plant breeding, genetics, and genetic purity.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting small plot equipment such as tractors and sprayers.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills and flexibility in dynamic situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in agriculture or related disciplines.
  • Experience loading, unloading, and trailering equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage small plot field trials from seeding to harvest, including trial location identification, seedbed preparation, seeding, scouting, pesticide applications, pest identification, data collection, harvesting, and reporting.
  • Help manage resources within the assigned location to ensure effective operations for Breeding and Trait Development programs, including equipment maintenance and inventory management.
  • Adhere to stewardship, regulatory, quality, and safety compliance guidelines, including documentation and record keeping.
  • Participate in the local EHS program to ensure safe and responsible activities, including training new employees.
  • Participate in regional planning and results meetings to align protocols and resources, ensuring proper communication of trial results.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including Breeding & Trait Development Managers and area growers.
