About The Position

Ball Horticultural Company is seeking a customer-centric candidate to work in the Quality Control department at Premier Lab. Ball is the largest flower seed breeder/producer and distributor in the world, providing outstanding products, best-in-class customer service, and reliable supply to professional growers around the globe.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 or more years of experience working with seed or in a greenhouse preferred
  • Technical Skills / Certifications: Basic math and computer skills, ability to enter and maintain records in computer system
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with internal customers, bilingual capabilities a plus
  • Hard Skills: MS Office experience preferred
  • Soft Skills: problem solving, attention to detail, organizational skills, teamwork, adaptability, and flexibility to work in multiple areas performing multiple tasks
  • Customer focus – productive, high-quality output to meet customer expectations and internal metrics
  • Situational adaptability – adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations
  • Collaboration – work directly with other employees inside and outside the department on shared objectives
  • Ability to Lift/Carry up to 40 Lbs. 10% of the day
  • Ability to push/Pull up to 50 Lbs. 10% of the day
  • Ability to Sit/Stand up to 50% of the day
  • Ability to Kneel/Bend up to 20% of the day
  • Ability to Reach above shoulder level up to 15% of the day

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Work with overall team to deliver best-in-class service.
  • Perform all other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s values.
  • Adhere to all quality control measures and watch for signs of tampering and contamination.
  • Participate in continuous improvement exercises and adapt to changing needs and requirements.
  • Complete training on all Quality Control parameters used to identify quality output of production orders.
  • Work closely with Production teams to determine whether seed enhancement quality standards are met on numerous crops.
  • Understand the effects of varying binders on seed.
  • Perform quality control tests including dissolvability, hardness, singularity, seed counts, pellet measurements, and overall coating or pelleting quality.
  • Understand pellet sizing requirements for each crop serviced by Production teams.
  • Perform tasks to ensure consistent quality while maintaining deadlines.
  • Learn the characteristics of many seed varieties in both raw and pelleted/coated forms.
  • Effectively use measuring equipment, scales, seed counter, and multiple software applications.
  • Support other departments as necessary.
