About The Position

URBANA SCHOOL DISTRICT #116 TITLE: See U Around Town Summer Programming Teacher (Multiple Positions Available) LOCATION: Dr. Preston Williams Jr. Elementary School (One site for the summer program which includes King, Preston Williams, Thomas Paine, Leal, and Yankee Ridge Elementary School Students Grades 2-4 currently). SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and building administrators. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily: Prepare lesson plans and implement them to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals. Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students and supports the school mission statement. Supervise and collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavior expectation and classroom activities for students. Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a student to a variety of experiences to broaden a student’s perspective, such as field trips, cooking activities and experiments. Implement appropriate assessments and document student progress as required by the district and ISBE grant. Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom. Work to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their students. Establish and maintain procedures for communicating with families on a regular and frequent basis. Supervise and provide ongoing training for support staff assigned to the classroom. Complete progress reports and maintain student records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations. Meet all requirements for classroom teachers as outlined by the ISBE grant. Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools and/or the Leadership Team. Minimal Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with certifications and endorsements as applicable. Experience: Classroom experience preferred. Prior experience working in an After School Program or Summer Programming is preferred but not required. Internal applicants only. Other skills and abilities: Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development. Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team. Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, social/emotional, and/or developmental disabilities. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses. Licenses/Credentials: Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement. Terms of Employment: Daily hours TBD, four days a week (June 8 - July 16, 2026) The position is for summer programming only when the program is in session. Attendance at an orientation meeting is expected prior to the start of this program. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of professional personnel. NOTE: This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not administrative in nature. Position contingent upon grant funding. Staff must formally apply by April 17, 2026. A tiered approach to hiring will be applied to filling vacancies: Tier I - Those with Full-time Teacher Certificates and experience working Urbana programs in Summer 2025 and/or After school programming 2025-26 Tier II - Should spots remain, this round will hire from applicants who work in the district as long term substitute teachers Hourly Position - $32/hour AN EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Created: March 2026

Requirements
