About The Position

Candidates must be able to cordially receive patients, process registration of patients, perform necessary insurance communications, type, receive phone calls, relay messages, and perform other related office/business functions. It is expected that candidates be flexible to work in various Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation office settings and be willing to learn the specific duties as related to each work site.

Requirements

  • High School graduate, graduate of Medical Secretarial School, or a combination of one year Hospital experience as a secretary and completion of a medical terminology course
  • Type 40 wpm with transcriber
  • Six months of experience as a Medical Secretary
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel to devise and use for patient and department correspondence.
  • Obtains authorization from PCP and insurance companies for outpatient care as needed.
  • Typing and completing Medicare forms for certification/ recertification for outpatient therapies every month. Entering ICD-10 codes.
  • Registers when necessary, and re-registers outpatients every month. Obtains necessary signatures for insurance monthly.
  • Maintains patient-related files for PM&R Dept.
  • Computes daily charges for services rendered by PM&R staff using the shared Medical Services Computer.
  • Operates transcription equipment, personal computer, shared medical system, duplicating, and fax machines.
  • Schedules and coordinates video fluoroscopy exams between Radiology, physicians, facility, nursing floor, and therapists. Types video fluoroscopy reports and distributes copies as necessary.
  • Covers for secretaries in PM&R as needs may arise.
